Our church has provided spiritual as well as physical food to the homeless for the past several years. Under the leadership of Deacon Michael & Beverly Powers the mandate to care for the widow and homeless is fulfilled. We welcome your partnership in this ministry through prayer, volunteering and financial gifts. To make a financial contribution please make checks payable to OSLC note “Homeless Ministry” on the memo line. May Christ Jesus be glorified through this ministry.
Opportunities to Give and Serve
Tuesday Night Outreach & Meals to the Homeless
Every other Tuesday we serve a meal and fellowship with the homeless in Azusa. During these dinners we also provide basic necessities such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, razors, toilet paper in addition to clothes and blankets.
Our next scheduled meal is
September 12, 2017.
Riverbed Clean-up & Bicycle Repair
We have learned through our ministry to the homeless that the encampments in the riverbed can accumulate a lot of trash. When it rains this trash can pollute the environment and wash into the ocean. In effort to serve and encourage civic-responsibility we offer bicycle parts and repairs in exchange for picking up trash in the riverbed. For every bag of trash collected, a coupon redeemable for one bicycle part is given to the person who collected the refuse. They are not limited to the number of bags they fill.
Around noon on Saturday after they’ve turned in their trash bags the coupons are brought to a crew of volunteers at the Azusa parking lot, who repair their bikes. A meal is also served.
The homeless depend on this act of love. It gives them reliable transportation and a way to work.
